This type of innovative technology that solves power generation issues and well as water issues in an eco-friendly way, is exactly what the world needs. Solar panels coupled with a rainwater harvesting surface and water tanks make the Photoflow ideal for urban and rural areas alike.
Developing countries can face a number of challenges, even in the 21st century. Poverty, food availability, access to electricity, and lack of safe drinking water are some of these concerns, among others. And while you might think providing safe, usable water and delivering affordable electricity to the people in developing countries are two separate challenges, a company known as NOS has invented a fascinating product that tackles both of those issues simultaneously.
Product designer Agustin Otegui Saiz established NOS in 2009. The company concentrates its energies on graphic and product design, as well as design consultation. According to its website, NOS focuses on working with each individual client and their specific needs in order to deliver a product that will satisfy on all levels. The company has worked with numerous organizations and companies, such as British Airways and Nikon, and has both a respected and trusted on-project and online reputation.
Designed exclusively by NOS, Photoflow is a revolutionary rainwater harvesting system that also uses panels to harness solar power.
Photoflow does double duty, using eight modules that use photovoltaic means to capture solar rays as well as alternatively collect rainwater.
Shaped as an octagonal whole, the parts are individual triangles. These modules are comprised of monocrystalline silicon solar cells that are covered with a special adhesive layer that facilitates solar ray absorption and prevents reflection so the light is taken in for optimal use. In addition, to prevent dirt from blocking the light, NOS has applied a special Nano film to the glass of the solar cells.
The octagonal solar cell design, which is sloped to a three-degree angle, is situated on top of custom-designed water tanks. The captured rainwater drains into the Photoflow device, where the water is then filtered. Once that has occurred, the water continues to flow through a hose until it reaches the main water tanks.
With a capacity of 400 liters, Photoflow holds plenty of water, and does it by utilizing eco-friendly materials such as polyethylene. The coating material used for the device’s water tank is designed to combat bacteria to ensure the water that is delivered is safe and okay to drink. Finally, each Photoflow module has its own lid so replacing parts and cleaning the device is made easier by unobstructed access.
NOS’s Photoflow proves to be an innovative solution that does double duty. It succeeds in solving the water and electric needs for many people who may otherwise have to struggle to obtain these valuable natural resources.
