When you turn on the tap or you flush your toilet, the pump detects the drop in pressure and activates, pumping water to fill the cistern, washing machine or to run the water in your kitchen. The tank on top of a pump allows water to be pumped under pressure, thus making it possible to supply water to the house’s fixtures.

If you run out of rainwater or for example if you have a tank that is too small, then you will face the problem during the hot summer months. This does depend on how much rainwater you’re using and how. If you are doing full laundry, bathroom and kitchen use, then you will deplete most of the water quite quickly even in the best of days. This is why it is a good idea to install rainwater tanks of larger capacity You can install a double check valve to the rainwater system, allowing the switching between rainwater and the water mains supply at your leisure.
