    5000 liter tanks

This is a slightly open-ended question as the size of the water tank required will depend the intended use of the water tank. Businesses and commercial operations usually require a large amount of water storage capacity while a home-owner may only require a small tank.

5000 liter tenkeIn South Africa, the probably the most common use of poly or plastic water tanks is for the storage of borehole water – typically one or two 5000 litre water tanks are set on steel tank stands to provide pressure.

Increasingly, homeowners in rural and urban areas alike are turning to rainwater harvesting to supplement municipal-supplied water or other sources of water.  In some smaller centres, municipal water supplies are unreliable and sometimes of questionable qualiy – many would prefer to harvest rainwater and filter the water for their consumption rather than trusting chemical-laden (and sometimes microbial-laden!) municipal water.

If hobby rainwater harvesting is the goal, then smaller rainwater tanks can be installed, for example 750 litre slimline tanks.  The extra water gained from harvesting rainwater can be used to supplement garden irrigation. However, these small water tanks tend to fill up and overflow within minutes of a heavy thundershower.  If rainwater harvesting is to be seriously considered then larger capacity poly water tanks such as 4500 litre, 5000 litre or even 10000 litre tanks should be installed.  Underground water tanks may be another option; JoJo Tanks manufacture a 6000 liter underground water tank which has a very useful capacity and can even be buried under driveways.

Industries often require large amounts of water to be stored; poly water tanks in the 10000 litre size class or even the 15000 litre or 20000 litre tank sizes are often the best choices.  A series of 10000 litre water tanks alongside a factory wall can ensure that a large quantity of water can be stored and some degree of independence from municipal water can be attained.

Sometimes the size of the water tank will be limited by existing building dimensions or conditions (e.g. some residential estates do not allow high water tanks and so low profile tanks that can easily be concealed should be chosen).

JoJo Tanks manufacture a huge range of water tanks and other products to suite just about every requirement.  To see dimensions, see vertical tanks and horizontal tanks.  If you need tank stands, see tank stands.  Click on the links below to see other JoJo Tanks products available in South Africa.
