Why choose a polyethylene water tank over a steel tank?

Public buildings such as hospitals can benefit from large 20000 litre water tanks
In South Africa, water supply cuts are a growing problem as municipalities struggle to cope with the ever-increasing demand for potable water combined with dilapidated water infrastructure. Water tanks at homes, businesses and public buildings are becoming increasingly necessary.
Why 20000 litre plastic or polyethylene water tanks?
Well, public buildings usually serve relatively high numbers of people and so a sufficient quantity of reserve water is called for. In South Africa, 20000 litres is probably the biggest poly tank size available (JoJo Tanks manufacture these huge 20000 litre tanks as well as 15000 litre tanks, 10000 litre tanks and a multitude of smaller tanks). Polyethylene tanks have a number of advantages over concrete water tanks and steel water tanks, including: easy to transport, relatively simple to install, virtually no maintenance required and generally far less costly that an equivalent 20000 litre steel tank or concrete tank.
Public buildings such as libraries, clinics, police stations, hospitals, schools and community centres can all benefit from having 20000 litre plastic water tanks installed. These big water tanks can be used to store municipal water to ensure the building has adequate reserve water supplies during planned and unplanned water supply outages. These public buildings by their very nature are often ideal for rainwater harvesting – big roof surface areas for collecting thousands of litres of rainwater during a good downpour. It may even be necessary to install more than one 20000 litre water tank to take full advantage of a building’s rainwater harvesting potential. As an added benefit, rainwater is free and the building’s water bills could be reduced to virtually zero in some cases.
JoJo Tanks is probably the only South African water tank manufacturer that has the rotational moulds big enough for making these large water tanks. 20000 litre water tanks are despatched directly from JoJo Tanks’ head office to most business, commercial or public addresses with tar road access, virtually anywhere in South Africa (specially adapted JoJo Tanks transport vehicles are used).
