JoJo 750 litre Slimline rain water tank information

The JoJo Tanks 750 litre ‘Slimline’ rainwater tanks (and 750 liter buffer water tanks) are very popular with South African homeowners; here is some more information about these water tanks.

Each JoJo 750 litre Slimline rainwater tank has the following:

-An inlet/overfl ow with a 40 mm female thread.
-An outlet with a 40 mm tank connector; fi tted with a thumb plug.
-A sieve with a stainless steel mesh to keep out leaves and mosquitoes. (rainwater harvesting tank only; it is not required in the buffer water tank).
-A black, child-safe clip-on lid to keep the dust and light out thereby preventing algae from growing in the water tank.
-A brass tap with standardized screw outlet for garden fittings. (rainwater harvesting tank only).

MAINTENANCE OF YOUR JOJO TANK

Most catchment areas are roofs and these collect dust, debris and even faeces from birds and rodents. It is therefore important to keep roofs and gutters clean.
-Check inlet, outlet and overflow for leaks (3 monthly).
-Check that the lid of the water tank remains firmly clipped in place (3 monthly).
-Remove the black lid of the water tank and clean out the sieve (3 monthly)
-Check the condition of the stainless mesh sieve (under the lid) annually – it comes standard in the 750 L Slimline™ rainwater-harvesting tank (complete).
-Check the sludge level and internal cleanliness of your water tanks every 2 years or as required. Empty the tank and clean thoroughly.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Regardless of the type of water tank, proper installation is required to prolong its life
The base must be robust, smooth and level and at least 150 mm thick . A concrete slab is ideal and it should be at least 2 cm larger than the base of the water tank. The water tank must never “hang” over its base.
Improve the quality of the water in your water tanks by installing a first flush diverter (FFD) and a Leaf Eater. The FFD diverts the first flush of dirty water away from the water tanks and the Leaf Eater prevents leaves from entering the water tank.

CAN ONE DRINK THE WATER IN THE TANK?

Untreated rainwater is not recommended for drinking. However, if it is the only water available, JoJo Tanks recommends that the water is boiled fi rst. This means bringing the water to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute (an effective means of disinfecting small amounts of water quickly) making it safe to drink. Water quality should be regularly tested for microbial safety to ensure the water is safe for its intended use.
